The Interactions You May Find in the Temperate Deciduous Forest Biome
Competition:
Bears and wolves hunt for the same type of prey. They compete for the same type of prey if the prey is scarce. Saplings of different species compete for sunlight, and has different outcomes based in part on the soil, and light intensities, and to a large degree in the effects on mammals.
Mutualism:
Bees look for the sweet sugary substance from flowers, and the pollen transported from the previous flower is transported to the next flower. This happens with other pollinators, such as butterflies.
Commensalism:
A tree provides shelter for a squirrel, but the tree is not affected because the squirrel lives in existing cavities in the tree. Other small mammals live in trees, and the tree is not harmed.
A fungus called Laetiporus cinncinatus grows on trees and breaks them down for nutrients. The tree gets weaker, decays, and becomes vulnerable to diseases and infections. Ticks feast on deer, and the tick gets food while the deer gets weak and susceptible to infection.
